A general store played an important role in villages and hamlets of New England and the Eastern Townships both for necessities such as flour, sugar, rubber boots, nails, and so on, and socialization. Ulverton possessed at least three general stores: Dorman, Cummings and Millar. The B. T. Reed home was located behind Millar’s Store.
