The Musée de la nature et des sciences de Sherbrooke is featuring a completely new virtual exhibit entitled “Collections from Storage: A Visit to our Hidden Treasures.” This exhibit enables visitors to explore the museum’s reserve collection comprising nearly 65 000 specimens and items that are part of our natural heritage. It was developed in partnership with the Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC) at virtualmuseum.ca, an initiative of the Department of Canadian Heritage.

For the first time ever, you can enter our reserve and discover the contents of its collections at your leisure. This tour takes you beyond the reserve to discover personalities, sites, institutions, and events that have marked Canada’s museology and natural history.

“With a simple click, you’ll find yourself wandering down the hallways and opening doors and drawers within which tens of thousands of collection specimens and items are conserved – including birds, mammals, insects, plants and Amerindian artefacts. Three activities are offered: a virtual tour, a theme visit, and games,” explained museum curator Serge Gauthier.
The Step-by-Step Tour of the Reserve with its revealing texts, photographs, videos, soundtracks, and objects presented in 360° will inform and amaze you. Expand your knowledge with a Theme Visit. Fun activities, treasure hunts, wordplays and quizzes will enhance your virtual tour.

You can visit the exhibition at www.naturesciences.qc.ca or http://www.museevirtuel.ca/Exhibitions/Visitereserve/accueil-home-eng.php.

The Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC), an initiative of the Department of Canadian Heritage, was established in partnership with nearly 3000 Canadian heritage institutions. Virtualmuseum.ca is a unique portal to the countless stories and treasures held in trust by Canada’s museums, and lies at the core of the Government of Canada’s strategy to nurture and promote Canada’s culture online.
