larger_mason.jpgIn a brief ceremony this week, the members of Golden Rule Lodge No. 5 of Stanstead presented a cheque for $600 to Sacré-Coeur Catholic Church, which is currently raising funds for major restoration work on the church's structure.

Gérald Grenier, who is a warden of the church, was on hand to accept the donation on behalf of the parish.

"This year, we celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the church since it was rebuilt after the fire of 1917. We still have a way to go yet in our fundraising," he said. "But we are getting there; and this donation from the Masons definitely helps."

Making the presentation on behalf of Golden Rule was Paul Baldwin. Baldwin, who is Master of the lodge, said that the lodge, in partnership with the Masonic Foundation of Quebec, was pleased to be able to help with the restoration of the Catholic church which, he pointed out, is "an important heritage site and Stanstead landmark -- just like Golden Rule Lodge."
