Every year around this time, the Colby-Curtis Museum in Stanstead puts on its much-anticipated Christmas sale. This year's event, scheduled for Saturday, November 20 (from 1:30 to 4 p.m.), is currently in the final stages of preparation, and many local shoppers are already marking an "x" on their calendars so that they don't forget to go.

Irene Poulin, the volunteer manager of the museum boutique, says that there will be an eclectic assortment of gift items this year, many of them produced right here in the Eastern Townships.

Whether you are looking for hard-to-find books on Townships history, locally made crafts, or unique jewellery items, there is a good chance you will find it here. But there are also antiques and collectibles, cards, children's books in both English and French, ornaments and decorations for the Christmas season, home accessories, and much more.

This year, Poulin says, there will even be a half-price table for shoppers looking for great bargains. And adding to the festive spirit of the occasion will be hot apple cider and homemade cookies, as well as free samplings of dishes made by local caterers.

"I invite everyone to come and see us," Poulin says. "You are sure to find something you like -- if not for yourself, then perhaps for someone special."

Although the annual Colby-Curtis Christmas sale is on for one day only, the museum boutique will remain open during regular museum business hours right through to the Christmas break.

The Colby-Curtis Museum (535 Dufferin, Stanstead) is open from Monday to Friday, from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, call (819) 876-7322.
