larger_encan2011.jpgCécile Gélinas, Director of the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, is pleased to announce that the 2011 edition of the Soirée des Beaux-arts brought the tidy sum of $75,000 to the coffers of the Musée, the result of ticket sales as well as the auction of art works. Twenty-two works achieved bids of $1000 or more: two each by Yves Trudeau, Riopelle et Jean Paul Lemieux and one by Leonard Cohen, Rita Letendre, Serge Lemoyne, Richard Lacroix, Lauréat Marois, Lisa Tognon, Norman McLaren, Norman Laliberté, René Derouin, Paolo Zuleta Zahr, Graham Cantieni and from the Townships, Mélanie Lefebvre, Charles Daudelin, Étienne St-Amant, John Ballantyne, Jacques Barbeau. But it was Sylvain Grondin’s Feu sacré, that hit the highest mark : an hommage to this Sherbrooke artist recently deceased.

A total of 52 works of art came under the gavel of Bertrand LaPalme, in the presence of a full house of artists, collectors, business and professional people, and lovers of art. Art consultant and television personality Alain Lacoursière was honorary president of the Soirée. The 23nd edition of the Soirée des Beaux-arts was generously supported by the Société des alcools de Québec and a new partnership was formed with Restaurant Auguste. Works for the auction were donated by artists and collectors of the region; we thank them most sincerely for their support of the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, and for their contribution to the most important annual fund-raising activity of our year.

Until next year!
