September 7th until October 26th, 2014

A collection of works by aboriginal artist, Ena Greyeyes, will be presented in an exhibition titled “Windows on a Life” at the Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre at 9 Speid Street in Sherbrooke from September 7th to October 26th, 2014. The exhibition will showcase Ms. Greyeyes’ life as an aboriginal woman from her early childhood to today. Her work consists of using wood and a sawing technique to create unique pieces of art that reflect her rich cultural heritage and connection to the land and nature. Her use of intense and vibrant colors portrays Native spirituality through animalistic forms that are often dissimulated in her art.

Ms. Greyeyes, of the Plains Cree nation, was born in western Canada on a reservation located in the province of Saskatchewan. She has lived in Quebec for the past fifty years and now makes her home in the Eastern Townships. Now retired, Ms. Greyeyes dedicates her free time to her art and frequently takes part in various regional art exhibitions. Her art has been exhibited in Old Montreal as well as in Brouage, France. Many of her pieces are in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, France, Australia, Argentina, Germany as well as the Dominican Republic. She is represented by the gallery Whetung Ojibwa Centre in Ontario.

Over the past few years, Ms. Greyeyes has often been invited to speak to students in various schools to present her aboriginal culture and share her personal experiences as a survivor of residential schools. She draws inspiration for her work from her rich cultural background and numerous life experiences. Visit her web site at: www.enagreyeyes.com
