medium_selby.jpgSelby Lake, in Dunham Township, in what is now the MRC of Brome-Missisquoi, was for many years the most popular spot for rowing, fishing, picnics and Sunday outings.

About a kilometre and a half (1 mile) in length, and virtually the only lake in the area, during the summer, Selby Lake was a magnet for people from the nearby villages of Dunham and Frelighsburg. People flocked to the shores of this little oasis, ever-anxious to escape the heat and dust of village life.

In the early 1900s, the Lake View House (which was later renamed the Selby Lake Inn) was opened. The inn featured a dance hall, an especially popular draw for locals on warm summer nights.

Today, Selby Lake is home to a number of cottages.
