medium_aaron.jpgLandscape painter Aaron Allan Edson was born in 1846 in Stanbridge, Missisquoi County. Studying painting in Montreal, London, and France, Edson became a charter member of the Royal Canadian Academy in 1880.

Although he lived most of his life in Montreal, Edson did a considerable amount of work in his native Eastern Townships, where he returned to live shortly before his death. Less well known today, in his own time Edson was considered one of the foremost Canadian landscape artists. His paintings are known for their tranquil depictions of nature and for their unusual lighting effects. He died at Glen Sutton in 1888.
